Fáilte, You’re Invited To Our Rambling House!
Building Relationships Across Distance & The Diaspora
From 2021 to 2022 we hosted online ‘Rambling Houses’. Rambling houses are held all over rural Ireland, people gather in someone’s home for music, stories, jokes, dancing, you name it. We created an online home and invited folks to join us there. Sometimes we watched movies, played music, spoke Irish, at meals together, and read and talked about articles. Some gatherngs were open to GC participants only and others were open to anyone.
As members of the diaspora we’re spread out and these online gatherings gave us a place to get to know one another.
Parts of Our Original Invitation:
Drop by and get to know other people interested in Irish cultural reconnection, honest history, and embodying a more just and loving world. Play a game in Irish, knit some socks, talk about one of the readings below, or whatever, its a party!
Sometimes we’ll invite guests to join us and speak about something they are passionate about, or musicians who might share their talents. For the first few though, we’ll just get to know each other. There will be some folks who have already learned/played with us and maybe they’ll share what they’ve learned. If you want to play a game in Irish, I’m sure one of us will host a playgroup! If you want to hear one of the songs we’ve learned perhaps someone will sing. Who knows? It’ll be different each time depending on who shows up.
Check out these articles, they give us a shared place to start from:
Glen Coulthard and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson “Grounded Normativity / Place-Based Solidarity”
Aedan Alderson, “Decolonizing the Irish: The International Resistance and Entrenchment of the Global Irish Diaspora”
Our aim is to build a network of Irish diaspora folx interested in a more just and loving world!
If you’re curious about us we’d love to meet you, and if we’ve already played and learned together, then we are excited to see you again!
